Windows 11 is the future of OSs. Microsoft designed the latest iteration to deliver a more efficient, productive, hybrid workforce, with user-benefits clear to see. It will replace all earlier versions of Windows, with security support for those ending sooner than you might expect. Because of this, it's important to be planning your migration now.

Microsoft has announced that it is ending support for Windows 10 in October 2025. At that point, Windows 10 will be 10 years old. While that's excellent longevity for an OS, it's time to start preparing for Windows 11. There's a bit to consider for achieving a smooth transition.

​Require a Device Upgrade?

There are minimum system requirements that your PC needs to meet so you can get the most out of the experience. While Microsoft has published minimum specs that appear very achievable, in reality, their published minimum is more suited to student or home laptops. For business users, we recommend the following minimum spec: 

• Intel® Core i5 8th generation
• 16GB memory
• 256GB storage with 64GB available
• SSD storage instead of a hard disk
• Full HD display and
• Windows Hello biometric authentication using face or fingerprint recognition
• TPM 2.0 needs to be activated

If you're unsure whether your existing fleet meets the requirements for Windows 11, TLC's managed services team can produce a report across your fleet to identify incompatible devices.

Thanks to their longer lifespans, there can be a large number of legacy HP devices, powered by Intel® Core™ processors, in corporate fleets that predate current security requirements. These devices should be replaced as part of migration to Windows 11.

How Can You Manage Old Devices?

TLC can assist in managing the end-of-life devices, via our RecoverMax solution. The RecoverMax service allows an organisation to donate end-of-life equipment to one of several charities that need quality used technology, or into a managed e-waste recycling service via our EPA-regulated recycling partner. This helps to cut back on the amount of IT entering the landfill, while also fulfilling a social good. High quality used devices (at around 3 years of age) can generate a payment back to you to help to subsidise the cost of the migration.
