Displays
Sure View reflect screen options
These are a switchable privacy filter option carried over from the EliteBook 800 G10.
When turned off, Sure View reflect displays are visible from all angles, looking similar to a standard display. Hitting the dedicated screen shutter key switches the screen to a narrow viewing angle - the user will see screen content when viewed head-on. Screen contents will be hidden from anyone off-centre and appear to be more mirror-like (as above). All Sure View options run at 1920 x 1200 resolution and may be available with touch screen or BrightView glossy options depending on model.
BrightView or Anti-glare
This is HP's gloss display option, providing deeper blacks for higher contrast. Many teams opt for the matte Anti-glare alternative option to reduce reflections in office lighting environments.

100% sRGB vs 45% NTSC
Entry level screens are capable of displaying 45% of the NTSC colour gamut. Creative teams should opt for 100% sRGB options to enable production-ready colour management. As these are measured on different scales, we calculate 100% sRGB to be equal to or greater than 72% of the NTSC gamut (at least 60% more colours than the 45% NTSC entry-level screen). Colour gamut limits are more noticeable for deeper and brighter colours. Dreamcolor and OLED options provide greater colour accuracy again with substantially greater contrast.
DreamColor & OLED
The 840 DreamColor and 860 OLED options are recommended for users creating Full HD content - their higher resolutions enable unzoomed content to be edited in software including Photoshop and Powerpoint while displaying application toolbars. These options are equivalent to those available on G10 models, providing a high quality alternative to full-workstations for content creators. OLED screens effectively provide unlimited contrast given the display's pixels emit light directly instead of shuttering a backlight, and provide the greatest colour performance currently available on a laptop. Dark themes for applications including Outlook, Photoshop & Windows 11 can help decrease battery drain for OLED displays.

Security
HP has upgraded its Endpoint Security Controller chip with a claim of providing protection from quantum computer hacks. HP is now offering an expanded suite of security tools under the Wolf brand. Depending on model this can include remote wipe, device tracking, threat detection, and reporting tools.

How to:
Access HP Fleet Prices
We’ve all been there – your manager tells you we need pricing to replace the team’s laptops – and the previous IT buyer has just left. Here’s where to start.
Outline your needs
- How many devices need replacing?
- Are the users general admin types, or specialists?
- Are there any problems with current devices, or things that the team wants to be able to do but can't with their current ones?
- Does your IT security team have any requirements?
- Do you have a budget to work with?
With The Laptop Company you can work with one of our Account Managers to help identify these, and which devices will suit. Fleet buyers should be choosing corporate class devices like the HP Elite or Dragonfly ranges, not gaming or student laptops. The goal is to get devices designed to be durable enough for all-day work for at least 3 years.
1. Are you buying for a public or a private sector company?
If you work in government, you can probably access AoG pricing. If you work for a private company, you may also be able to access HP corporate fleet pricing. In general, the more devices you need, the better the price you can access.

Are you employed in the Public Sector, such as a government agency, state-owned entity, local council, university, public hospital, or state school?
- If yes, your organisation may qualify for special government pricing through the AoG (All of Government) IT Hardware Contract. Contact us to find out if your employer is participating in AoG. We may invite you to nominate The Laptop Company as your Third-Party Agent – this allows you to access HP prices through us.
- If you’re part of the public sector but not currently part of AoG, your team may be able to join. Go to procurement.govt.nz/contracts/it-hardware/ find out how to join.
- Some agencies aren’t required to participate in AoG. If your employer has opted out, then contact us directly to access HP volume pricing.
Track Two | You work in the private sector
Is your company located in New Zealand or Australia (we do not supply IT companies who want to resell devices or export devices overseas).

- If your employer doesn’t already have one, your Account Manager will establish a credit account for your employer, verify your purchasing authorisation, and create a quote for the requested devices based on your requirements. This pricing is confidential.
- If you need to make a variation on the quote, or different options, contact your account manager. They will also let you know the estimated delivery date for each model.
How do you place an order?
If the quoted price meets your team’s requirements, then it’s time to order. Your organisation might have procurement policies and rules in place, and managerial sign-off requirements. Check with your manager:

2. What can you access when you're ordering fleets from The Laptop Company?

- Your Account Manager at The Laptop Company is your primary contact. They can provide guidance on how to manage your computer fleet, software, and your end-users. They can also provide advice about devices that are due for replacement or have expiring warranties, and the recommended replacement for these.
- For larger fleets (150+ users), you can opt for an entirely managed fleet solution covering the full lifecycle of all devices, their replacement schedules, support, and software management as part of the Modern Fleet Management service.
- For HP Elite devices, HP offers both on-site repair capability at your workplace, as well as return to base repairs at The Laptop Company’s four service centres in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. The latter is particularly popular with teams that do not want to undergo fault diagnosis reporting.

HP EliteBook: G7 to G10
We have a number of fleet users who are ready to replace their HP EliteBook G7 fleets. With major changes introduced in the G8 and G9 ranges and carried through to and improved in the new G10 range, the upgrade is fairly significant for end users. We've listed the main differences for the HP EliteBook 800 series below.

PassMark benchmark score improvement for standard i5 models
10th gen Intel Core i5-10310U 4 physical cores 8 threads architecture introduced 2017 PassMark CPU benchmark score: 6503 |
13th gen Intel Core i5-1335U 10 physical cores (2 P-cores, 8 E-cores) 12 threads (4 P-threads, 8 E-threads) architecture introduced 2022 PassMark CPU benchmark score: 16573 |
The new Intel Performance Hybrid Architecture in the EliteBook G10 is a two generation leap from that used in G7 models. It uses a combination of P (Performance) cores for high performance and responsiveness in user applications, and E (Efficiency) cores for efficient processing of background and multi-core tasks. Intel Thread Director selects the most suitable cores for each task in Windows 11 for optimal performance and efficiency. Windows 10 users also gain a noticeable performance bump with the new multi-core architecture, even without Intel Thread Director support.
Graphics

G3D Benchmark improvement
Intel iRIS Xe graphics provide equivalent performance to the optional upgrade discreet NVIDIA and AMD graphics options offered on selected HP EliteBook G7 models. 13th gen Intel Core i7 models get 96 Execution Units for additional graphics horsepower while Intel Core i5 models have 80. By contrast the older Intel UHD 620 graphics found in G7 devices were based on an older architecture with just 24 Execution Units.

Display brightness options are consistent across the two generations with both starting at 250 nits brightness, and the option of 400 nits with auto-dimming and increased colour quality, or 1000 nits with switchable Sure View Reflect privacy filter. Touch is optional on most models.

Lockdowns and work-from-home proved the need for better quality and more useful webcams since the G7 was introduced. As well as improving the physical hardware with much higher quality 5 megapixel sensors, HP has introduced automatic panning and zooming with a follow-me feature. Low-light, backlight and appearance filters improve the appearance and professionalism of presenters. Multi-camera support automatically switches between the presenter's webcam and an external subject camera in Teams and Zoom. This includes keystone correction for improving the readability of whiteboards and documents presented to virtual audiences.

Weight & design

Starting weights are broadly equivalent between generations - add approximately 100 grams to each to calculate the weight of touch screen models. Narrower screen bezels (borders) and the new 16:10 screen format make the newer models squarer in shape than older models. This, and the removal of the optional pointing stick and buttons, has allowed HP to increase the size of touch pads on all models relative to previous versions.

Waste is nothing new, and neither is recycling. What has changed drastically in recent years is the massive amounts of electronic waste or e-waste we’re creating.
Because most of us only buy a new electronic device every 1-2 years, we don’t tend to worry about what happens to our old devices. We dutifully recycle plastic and glass on a daily basis, but we pay less attention to what should or could happen to our electronic devices when we’re finished with them.
When we consider the number of new devices our business rolls out every year, it’s no surprise that we produce upwards of 50 million tonnes of e-waste every year globally. Much of this e-waste is dumped illegally, and e-waste landfills are considered some of the most toxic places on Earth.
Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way, as our electronic devices can still be circulated back into use in one form or another. When we design devices correctly and pay more attention to the materials contained in each device, we can maximise the useful lifetime of everything we create.
This is the essence of what’s now known as the circular economy, and it’s a system that could offer your business new avenues for being both more sustainable and cost effective.
Closing the loop
The concept of a circular economy has been explored for decades by various academic groups and think tanks, but it reached broad appeal when the Ellen MacArthur Foundation partnered with McKinsey Research for their 2013 landmark report: Towards the Circular Economy: Economic and business rationale for an accelerated transition.
In the report, a new economic model is described which can decouple global economic development from finite resource consumption. By restoring and reusing products, components, and materials at their highest utility and value at all times, a circular economy:
Fast forward to the 2018 World Economic Forum, and HP joined the Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy (PACE) and in 2019 extended their commitment to continue transitioning to a circular “make, use, reuse” approach that seeks to close the loop for their products. As a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation global commitment to address plastic waste at its source, HP now innovates to ensure the plastics they use are reusable or recyclable, while circulating plastics away from the environment and back into the economy.
From ownership to outcomes
Dovetailing with the movement towards the circular economy has been the popularity of everything-as-a-service (XaaS) models for IT investment. Driven by the switch from on-premise infrastructure to the cloud, organisations are enthusiastically adopting new models of IT investment that are less about owning assets, and more about getting an outcome.
One area that is ripe for this transition is in device management. Organisations want to equip users with the right hardware and support to get the job done, while improving end user productivity, IT efficiency, and cost predictability.
This is where HP Device as a Service (DaaS) offers a complete solution that combines hardware, support, insightful analytics, proactive management services for every stage of an organisation’s device lifecycle. Not only does it reduce the costs and complexity of owning and managing devices – it also contributes to a more sustainable operating model for businesses.
As a partner of HP and Intel®, we have assisted many organisations to reduce their waste and emissions, because the HP devices we supply are designed to be repaired. The Laptop Company is helping save around 150kg of carbon (plus manufacturing waste) for each device we repair instead of replacing with new.
We are proudly delivering HP’s DaaS to help NZ businesses maximise the value and useful life of the devices used across their workforce. We can tailor a HP DaaS solution that enables you to drive productivity, reduce costs and complexity, all while creating a more sustainable future.
